Xiomara A. Maldonado
Welcome to my site! I'm so grateful you're here.
I'm a New York City native who draws upon the urban landscape, my Puerto Rican heritage and, more recently, life as a mother to a toddler with special needs for creative inspiration.
I love adventure and hate being limited by my surroundings or my mind. Whether you blame my fear of feeling trapped on my Sagittarius zodiac sign, on my battle with depression or my struggles as a Latina and a woman in American society, the end result is the same: I am consistently seeking the path to freedom.
Freedom to be who I want to be, freedom to do what I want to do, freedom to say what I want to say--as long I don't hurt anyone in the process. Publicly exposing my life and thoughts through the creative arts helps me to feel that sense of liberty.
I'm an avid blogger, memoirist, poet and photographer. Given my love for literature and writing, I received a degree in English and Creative Writing from Barnard College-Columbia University and have studied Memoir through Gotham Writers Workshop courses.
Through my writing, I lay bare my experiences in hopes of connecting personally and professionally with my readers and fellow writers. I write to promote a sense of healing, empowerment and understanding in myself as well as my virtual and physical communities.
By speaking candidly about my experiences as a mother of color living in New York City, I hope to shed some light on my view of the world and engage some thoughtful conversations on life, love and justice.

Equis Place

My blog Equis Place represents a Nuyorican mom's honest take on love, life and justice in the big city.
It focuses on my daily life experiences as a Latina woman and mother raising a toddler with special needs in New York City and what I learn through these experiences. I write about the trials, joys and lessons of motherhood; womanhood and the Puerto Rican experience in NYC as well as universal subjects, such as death, sickness and health. |
|
My posts also highlight family and professional events and product and activity reviews.
All of my posts uphold My Blogger's Creed, which dictates the values by which I govern my blog. Thank you, yet again, for allowing me to share myself and my life with you. I hope you'll share yours with me. Enjoy! ~Xiomara |
